1986-present – Freelance Musician, Sound Engineer, Producer, Teacher

Professional Guitarist, Bass, Double bass, Drums & Keyboards. I have taught privately (and within institutions). Music production and sound engineering in commercial studios for clients and private mobile studio.

2015-present – Mansons guitar shop, Exeter – part-time self-employed Sales Consultant

Part-time self-employed sales consultant, involved in all aspects of running this internationally respected guitar shop.

2015 – Falmouth University – Sessional Guitar Tutor

Tutor: Guitar – One-to-one with students as part of their degree course.

Guitar Consultant: 2011-2012 – Vintage and Rare guitars, Bath 

I worked here during a six month period whilst briefly living in Bristol.

2007-2009 – Deep Blue Sound, Plymouth – Lecturer in Music
(City College Plymouth, Estover College, University Of Plymouth)

Tutor:  Degree (Fda), HNC, HND, Btec and one-to-one in this internationally renowned facility. Subjects included production, composition, music-theory, sound engineering, listening aesthetics, music history, instrument tech, music for media, music business, acoustics, etc.
I taught in a team of about 30 lecturers to around 300 students aged 16+.

2003-2009 – Frontiers, Dartington – Sessional Worker (music)

I worked with clients there from 2003-2010.
I designed a studio (built with Devon County Council funding), which was used to run music sessions for young people in difficult situations (ie. out of school, learning difficulties).

1997-2001 Chandler Guitars (Kew) – full-time sales co-manager

Worked as co-manager (with Damon Chivers) at this internationally respected guitar shop. Some of my personal clients included Pete Townsend, John Paul Jones, David Gilmour, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Scott Gorham, Noel Gallagher, Clem Clempson, Greg Lake, Chris Dreya, Graham Gouldman, Tim Renwick, Courtney Pine, Roddy Frame, George Michael, etc. My personal favourite moments were: playing David Gilmour’s guitars – the ‘Live At Pompei’ Black Strat, and the white 001 Strat, the Les Paul used for ‘The Wall’. Playing Brian May’s ‘Red Special’, Broadcaster nos. 007 (Jeff Beck’s I think), Angus Young’s SG (and Malcom Young’s Gretsch), Metallica’s black collection, Beastie Boys collection, Joni Mitchell’s Martin…

1994-1997 Earth Music/ABC music (Kingston)- full & part-time sales

This is where I really began learning about music tech – I spent 3 years running the guitar dept. and helping in ‘hi-tech’. I learnt a lot about recording, synths, samplers and computers here, and began to build my studio.

1987-89 Q7/Giffin Guitars – Kew) – full-time sales/manager

Part-time whilst at college, then went full-time (managed the shop) when I finished A levels. We had lots of well-known clients including Eric Clapton, Queen, Jeff Beck, Albert Lee, The Rolling Stones, Gary Moore – my favourite moment was when Alan Rogan (who owned the premises) showed me his personal collection, including a Jimi Hendrix strat!! he wouldn’t let me play it though!!…. also all the Rolling Stones and Who gear…I also played and diagnosed faults on Gary Moore’s Peter Green Les Paul – that was a big moment for me, as I was 17!
